I’m Mateo, a designer and writer from toronto. My raison d'être is to connect with people and to make them feel things.

my career started in writing. for years i wrote long-tail blogs, copy for ads, and positioning documents for brands. writing taught me about story and the importance of a thread. but there was a problem.

as a writer i collaborated with designers. often too. their job was fascinating, and i loved whenever they shared their world with me. i found myself nitpicking hues and corner radii as if it were character count and punctuation. i grew jealous of designers, and asked my manager to let me pivot. he obliged, but i'd have to learn a lot.
i loved it and i never looked back.

years later, i own messaging and design for firms who genuinely want to make something meaningful, lasting, and honest.
my greatest work with founders and teams came from persons who saw creative as a necessity and not a nice-to-have. my hope is to build brands that feel true, that genuinely spark joy, and make their owners proud.

we can debate pixels all you want. we can even fight over pantones and kerning. we'll argue all day and all night. but nothing in brand matters until we find a meaningful narrative or a messaging thread that will actually resonate with the audience we want to connect with.
if you have an honest story, a great product, and a proven group of people who care about this thing you're building, then we have a lot to work with.

i box, and i compete. i run every week. my half marathon best is 1:39 and it took everything i had. i love my friends and family. they are who i do it all for. i want to make them proud.
